The Tale of This Yoga Teacher

This journey has not been without many twists and turns. Still, I ended up exactly where I wanted and needed to be.

While attending college for Interior Design in Chicago, a classmate invited me to try a yoga class with her. It was hard and fast, and I couldn't keep up. Being my first in-person class experience, it was nearly 15 years before I stepped foot in another yoga class. My passion for yoga didn't end there, I found some DVDs and a yoga cable channel and practiced all the time. As my husband, our 2-year-old son, and I prepared to leave Chicago, I knew I wanted to become a yoga teacher. Since I wasn't attending studio classes, I didn't have the confidence or knowledge I thought I needed to become a yoga teacher. This idea would have to wait just a bit longer.

I kept practicing yoga and even attended dance classes until I could find a yoga studio that wasn't in Ft. Wayne. Finally, a yoga studio opened in town, and I started attending in-person yoga classes again. The classes were much less intimidating this time.

When we moved from Chicago, I struggled to find a job in alignment with my career as an Interior Designer.  I spent many years searching for a job that was the right fit: I had a home bakery, managed a coffee shop, worked in customer service for a small local bank, and finally ended my time in the workforce while working as an administrative assistant.

My decision to leave the workforce and pursue my dreams wasn't easy. The fear I had about my value and ability to financially provide for my family created a lot of anxiety but, the Universe was not going to let this opportunity pass, and neither was I. After a lot of research, meditation, journaling, and battling my insecurities, I found a program that was exactly the right fit. In July 2019, I became a certified Yoga Teacher.

Every day as a yoga teacher is a new opportunity to grow as a person and deepen my compassion. There is never a day that I don't want to go to class because I know that each time I step onto my mat for myself or others, I become a better teacher, a better mother, and a better wife.

Yoga has changed my life and my relationship with my body and mind. It's helped to heal some of my deepest darkest wounds, and I am grateful for this gift every day.
